Chicky Pop: Review + GIVEAWAY!

Happy Fall Friends! If you are like me and living in a southern state, you may have not noticed that fall is here! With the temps still hanging around the 90's, it's hard to really remember that we are in the cozy  season. So to help our family get into the fall spirit, I am slowly incorporating fall pieces into our summer attire. For example, pairing a light sweater with shorts or light weight infinity scarf with my tops. I plan to do the same with McKenzie and was so pleased to see that the amazing Children's Boutique, Chicky Pop had their fall collections all in stock!  This fun online boutique is a great place to shop for unique items to adorn your little one, your little's nursery and/or play space!  From high quality fashion and accessory brands to stylish toys, nursery and dining accoutrements- everything you need for your little trendsetter is available in this one stop shop!

With so many amazing brands to choose from, we decided our first fall fashion piece would be this adorable "Bandit Bear" sweatshirt from premium organic brand, Quinn + Fox!

Whether the weather is hot or cold, your little will absolutely love this cozy sweatshirt by Quinn + Fox! It is made with the softest organic cotton and has a larger loose fit for added comfort. The adorable print is by Global Artist, Joe Martinez (Ca) and is printed using water-based black ink.

I love how this top is a wonderful transition piece from fall to winter. Today, I paired it with a pair of shorts and blucher shoes for McKenzie and once winter weather hits, I might throw a white collar shirt underneath with a pair of leggings or jeans.
I highly recommend Chicky Pop Shop as your go-to place for all the latest baby/child fashion trends! They have everything you need to stock your little up on style!

Potting Training- Beginner's Essentials

Hi my lovely Fawn Friends! I have an exciting topic to share with you today and I know you will be just as thrilled as me to read all about it!

Something new has developed in our household as of late last week while McKenzie was getting ready for her bath….Silence…. she said the word "Potty"! It went more like "Mommy Potty", "Baby Potty" while pointing to each one.

1: Potty Chair 2: Pull Ups 3:Step Stool 4:Fruit Snacks 5:Potty Chart/Stickers 6:Potty Book 7:Potty Seat
After reaching out to my fellow mommy friends, I received many wonderful tips and item suggestions to start off our potty training adventure. Many moms did say that their child preferred the big potty versus the little potty chair and a few praised the foldable potty seat cover for in-home and public use.  Even though McKenzie doesn't seem to have an aversion to the little potty chair, I went ahead and purchased a foldable seat cover, as it would be perfect for when we are out and about.
Excited about her new potty training adventure
I bought McKenzie's potty chair a while ago as an attempt to practice "potty awareness".  McKenzie basically uses it as another bath toy that she can sit up and down on or stick her foot in for a few seconds. I figured we would be a late bloomer when it came to potty training as her interest hasn't seemed to grow much since…until...last week! :D I never thought I would be this excited about potty training.  I know it's only the short lived "honeymoon stage" that's talking, however there is something about hitting each milestone that has me in tears of joy and sadness all at the same time. Needless to say, I jumped at the chance to begin my research as soon as she went down to sleep that night.

My next purchase was a package of pull ups! McKenzie is OBSESSED with Disney Jr's Doc McStuffins and I was thrilled to find these pull ups with her character and friends from the show printed on them. I let McKenzie hold the pair while I got her ready to slip them on and she screamed "Fuffins! Fuffins! Fuffins!" (Which means Doc McStuffins in McKenzie language and a Gold Star For This Mommy) :D
They fit like a glove and she didn't think twice about wearing them! She couldn't wait to tare through the bag to pull out another!
What can I say? My daughter's feet are her feelers. She not only loves to stick her foot in her potty chair, she enjoys propping her foot up on her new bag of pull ups as well. I just can't get enough of those baby thighs though so prop away baby girl!
I also enrolled Kenzie in the Pull Ups Big Kid Academy to help with our potty training preparations. This site is wonderful! It is full of potty training tips and helpful strategies to start both child and parent off on the right foot! Once you take the "signs of readiness" quiz, you then move on to their Big Kid Prep List as well as a generous collection of fun activities for day and night time training. The "potty-timer" app will also come in handy when creating a potty routine as her potty skills progress.
Another neat thing about these pull ups, is the printed character begins to fade when they become wet allowing her see when she has an "accident". The night-time pull ups come with extra absorbency and a glow in the dark feature that make wearing these even more exciting!
These baby thighs, I mean….
This is Kenzie pretending to take a nap with her new pull ups. I hope she never outgrows her fun and quirky personality. She has me laughing at some point or another every single day. I just love this child.
When people used to say "Don't Blink!  Before you know it, she'll be out of diapers." I would simply smile and nod not realizing how so right they are! Who knew we would already be in the beginning stages of working our way out of diapers?!? Time just flies when you have a little, so I'm really working on soaking up (pardon the pun) each and every milestone that passes  - including potty training.

If you're like me, in the beginning stages of potty training or need additional support that is fun and helpful, I highly recommend enrolling in The Big Kid Academy! I feel much more prepared and confident about the potty training process, now that I have their site to lean on. And I know you will too!

DIY: Life-Size Magnetic Chalkboard

It's DIY day again here on Fawn Over Baby! You're going to looooooove this one!

I posted to my instagram that I just can't seem to leave Kenzie's playroom alone and that pretty soon she will have no room to play! Although the photos don't seem like it is filled with toys and a crazy amount of diy projects, you are only seeing the cleaned up side of the room! :/

We have somehow collected several magnet toys over the past year and poor Kenzie just uses them to stack or line up in a row, since we do not have a magnetic surface anywhere in our home. Our stainless steel fridge had us fooled - it is not magnetic. So, I decided to add a magnetic board to her play space, so she has a place to actually use her collection as they were meant to be used. I look at it as a science activity that would be fun for her to experiment with. Even as an adult,  if I have two magnets in my hand, I find myself clicking them together and sometimes watching them slowly connect. I'm weird I guess but you have to admit it's pretty fascinating.

So project "Magnent Board" was called into action! I found so many clever/genius parents hanging oil drip pans on their walls, creating a nice spacious area to display their magnets (here, here & here). So I went to wal-mart and found one for under $12, score!!

With me being chalkboard obsessed and all, I decided to take it a step further and apply my own homemade chalk paint (because I have so much of my ingredients left from my last project) in the color white to create a crisp clean canvas. I then went on to fancy up our magnet letters, I purchased from Target's $1.00 clearance aisle, and painted them gold! I hung up the pan with velcro command strips and it was ready for magnet mania!

So here is the short and skinny on How-To Make Your Own Life-Size Magentic Chalkboard!

Supplies:
  1. Xtra Large Oil Drip Pan
  2. Chalkboard Paint (I made my own, here)
  3. Magnent Letters
  4. Gold Spray Paint
  5. Large Velcro Command Strips
Instructions:
  • Roll on your chalkboard paint and let dry (Just Spray Paint if you prefer it without chalkboard.)
  • Condition your chalkboard by rubbing chalk over entire area, then wipe off.
  • If you want to pretty up your magnents: Just lightly spray paint magnet letters. Several coats needed.
  • That's It - Your Toddler Life-Sized Magnetic Chalkboard is ready for display!

I added a little garland to cover up the embossed lettering that peeks out a bit & plus a little bit of frill never hurt anyone :)

Just a side note: McKenzie's playroom is never this tidy. I cleaned it up just for you! :)

I loved how the gold letters turned out, so I decided to add a few more colors.
