DIY: String Easter Basket

With Easter right around the corner, I have been searching for just the right easter basket for "Kenzie". She is almost 5 months old and I know what you're thinking "she's a baby, she doesn't need one".  I'm such a big holiday person and it's in my nature to go a little over board. With that said, I do want something small and simple since she is just a baby.  I just happen to run across this little cutie diy project from interior designer Tara Dennis. I can actually see myself attempting this!  All you need is a balloon, twine, glue, fabric stiffener and scissors! Like I said in my previous diy post, the shorter the list, the better!

Since we are so close to Easter. I'm going to go ahead and post her instructions now and I'll upload my finished product to compare! :)

DIY String Easter Basket
Items you will need:
  • Balloon
  • Brush
  • Liquid fabric stiffener - Tara used Plaid
  • Scissors
  • Strong craft glue or a hot glue gun
  • Natural Sting, Jute is preferred

Step 1:Blow up your balloon and brush on a layer of fabric stiffener. This helps to hold the string in place.

Step 2: Wrap the string around the balloon. Keep going in different directions until the ballon is covered but you can still see through the layers.

Step 3: Liquid fabric stiffener - she used Plaid

Step 3 cont'd: Saturate the string by brushing on plenty of fabric stiffener. Leave this to dry over night.

Step 4: Now for the fun part. Pop the balloon using a pin and carefully remove it from inside your string ball.

Step 5: Using sharp scissors, cut the ball in half.

Step 6:One half will be the basket, the other half can be cut to create a handle.

Step 7:Glue the handle securely to the base.

Step 8:Leave natural & fill with eggs.
May not be durable for toddlers and up, however, perfect prop for baby's 1st easter photo!
